A regular Thursday Trivia Night of trivia at Virginia Beer Company turned into an opportunity to give back to the Greater Williamsburg community on August 27.

SpeedQuizzing VA, operated by Squared Away Entertainment, partnered with Virginia Beer Company for a special trivia fundraiser supporting the #250FoodDrive, raising $656 for Williamsburg House of Mercy through donations made during the evening.

Trivia players were encouraged to support the cause throughout the night, with donations adding a little extra competition to the usual SpeedQuizzing format. Guests were also encouraged to bring shelf-stable food and other needed items as Virginia Beer Company launched its participation as a #250FoodDrive collection location.

The #250FoodDrive is a community-wide initiative connected with Virginia’s 250th commemoration and is working to stock local food pantries throughout Greater Williamsburg. Virginia Beer Company’s collection effort supports Williamsburg House of Mercy, FISH, St. Olaf Food Pantry, and Grove Christian Outreach Center.

For Squared Away Entertainment owner Matt Chambers, events like this demonstrate how something as simple as a weekly trivia night can bring people together while supporting organizations serving the local community.

“Trivia is supposed to be fun, but nights like this show that it can be more than just a game,” said Chambers. “Our trivia community showed up, had a great time, and helped support neighbors right here in Greater Williamsburg. I’m incredibly grateful to everyone who donated and to Virginia Beer Company for giving us the opportunity to be part of the #250FoodDrive.”

SpeedQuizzing VA hosts interactive trivia events throughout the Greater Williamsburg area and is part of Squared Away Entertainment, a Williamsburg-based entertainment company providing trivia, DJ/MC, photo booth, and event entertainment services.

Donations are still being accepted for the #250FoodDrive, so anyone who was unable to contribute during trivia can still take part. Community members can use the donation link to support Williamsburg House of Mercy and help continue the impact beyond Thursday night’s event. Every contribution, no matter the amount, helps support neighbors in need throughout the Greater Williamsburg community.
