Are you retired or transitioning from a full-time career and looking to leverage your talents in the Greater Williamsburg area? Or do you know someone who is? If so, the Community Leadership Service (CLS) program could be the perfect fit!

Sponsored by the Greater Williamsburg Area Chamber of Commerce, CLS inspires participants to make a difference through leadership and volunteerism. Selected from a cross-section of the Greater Williamsburg area, participants represent a diverse range of backgrounds. We are now halfway to our Class of 2026 application deadline of May 30, 2025.

This biennial 10-week program delivers a unique behind-the-scenes view of the Greater Williamsburg area – its leaders, civic needs, governing bodies, and key organizations – in an experience unmatched by any other program.

CLS participants will:

• Engage directly with area key leaders and community partners
• Gain deeper insights into Greater Williamsburg area issues
• Experience interactive weekly sessions covering a broad range of topics
• Make and build sustaining relationships and business connections
• Identify areas of interest to make a positive impact and "give back" to the Greater Williamsburg area

Participants complete the program having gained a deeper understanding of their community and the areas where they can make a positive impact. Many of the key organizations involved in the program engage CLS alumni as thought partners, volunteers, and board members, which strengthens area ties, bolsters growth, and fosters new opportunities within the community. Since 2006, a total of 147 CLS alumni have gone forward to make an impactful contribution as leaders and volunteers addressing community needs in Williamsburg, James City County and York County.
