WYO's Yorktown Day Concert on 10/19/2024

Saturday, October 19, 2024 (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM) (EDT)

Description

Special Musical Tribute on Yorktown Day The Williamsburg Youth Orchestra (WYO) Symphony, under the direction of conductor David Grandis, invites you to a special one-hour musical tribute on Yorktown Day, October 19, 2024. This outdoor concert will take place in Colonial National Historical Park, in the green space between Historic Mobjack Coffee Roasters and Little York Confectionery. This event is a key part of celebrating Yorktown Day commemorating the surrender of Lord Cornwallis to General George Washington at the final battle of the American Revolution. This year also recognizes the 200th Anniversary of General Lafayette's return visit to Yorktown during his Farewell Tour of the United States in 1824 and 1825. Audiences will be transported to the era of Lafayette through orchestral performances of the music that was played when Lafayette returned to Yorktown, including Marche des Insurgentes by Madame Brillon du Jouy, and a special vocal solo by WYO alumna Tara Davy, performing Lucile Grétry's beloved chanson Où peut-on être mieux. This free concert is open to the public, and we encourage you to bring lawn chairs to enjoy the event comfortably. Don't miss this unique opportunity to connect with history and enjoy beautiful music in the heart of Yorktown!
